Patrick Henry Community College will host a Martin Luther King Celebration in the Walker Fine Arts Theatre on the PHCC campus on Thursday, January 15, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The event, hosted in conjunction with the Martinsville & Henry County Martin Luther King Celebration, is free and open to the public.
The celebration will feature the PHCC Gospel Choir, which will present “Celebration of the Patriot Festival.� Terry Young, Professor of Legal Administration, History and Political Science, will offer thoughts about “Past to Present,� how the nation has changed from the time of Dr. King and the era of Civil Rights to now, when we are poised to inaugurate an African-American as President of the United States. This will be followed by a poetry reading by PHCC student Bronwyn Hairston.
Culminating the celebration will be a student panel which will address a series of quotes made by Dr. King on nonviolence, injustice, love, peace, and prejudice between 1963 and 1968. The students, Stanley Wade, Johnathon Hairston, Phyllis Walker and Tonya Hodges, will read a quote and open the floor to comment.
